Winter Slumber
Whenever Rae comes to us upset about something, my instinct is usually to validate, talk it through, and help her figure out how to handle it.
Nate's instinct is entirely different.
Without missing a beat he'll say something like:
"That's it. Who is he? I'll hang him from a flag pole." đ
And every single time, she smiles.
The tension breaks.
The heaviness lifts.
Suddenly the problem doesn't feel quite so overwhelming anymore.
What I've come to appreciate over the years is that he's not dismissing her feelings.
He's helping her carry them differently.
He's reminding her that hard things don't always have to feel quite so heavy.
And that she doesn't have to carry every hard thing alone.
And once she's smiling, once she's taken that breath, once the emotion isn't quite so overwhelming, she's much more open to the conversation that follows.
As parents, we often focus on teaching children how to navigate challenges.
But sometimes one of the greatest gifts we can give children is helping them remember they don't have to carry every hard thing alone.
Happy Father's Day to the dads, grandpas, stepdads, and father figures who help children carry the hard things, one laugh, one hug, and one conversation at a time. đ

When I first had the idea for Little by Littleâ˘, I knew pretty quickly that I didnât want it to feel like another parenting course.
I didnât want parents sitting down to âlearnâ something while exhausted after a long day.
Because bedtime usually doesnât happen in perfect conditions.
It happens while you're cleaning up dinner.
While your child asks for one more hug.
While youâre trying to stay calm through big emotions.
While sitting beside a bed wondering if youâre handling everything âright.â
And children donât always connect best through explanations.
They connect through stories.
Thatâs why I chose to make Little by Little an audio story.
I wanted it to feel calming.
Gentle.
Connected.
Easy to use in real life.
Not to replace connection, but to support it.
I also realized along the way that I didnât want this to be just another childrenâs book sitting on a shelf.
I wanted parents to be able to press play during bedtime.
In the dark.
While snuggling.
While sitting beside the bed.
While navigating real-life bedtime moments.
Because sometimes children need help feeling emotionally safe around sleep before they can build confidence around independence.
And sometimes stories can say things children are more willing to hear from a character than from us.
Little by Little was created to help bedtime feel less overwhelming and more connected, for both children and parents.
Not perfect overnight.
