In addition to contributing a paper sample of his indigo-plant paper, Valentin Bakardjiev (Valentin Bakardjiev) shares his artwork utilizing the paper. Here, Valentin is assembling a composite piece using individual sheets of indigo plant (Persicaria tinctoria) handmade paper, pigmented with indigo extracted from the same material. To commemorate the fortieth anniversary of Hand Papermaking magazine and her twenty years as its editor, Mina Takahashi contributes a blue paper sample for the “All Blues” issue. Pictured here is a full 22 x 30-inch sheet of ultramarine-pigmented paper, “corrupted” with vinegar. A sample of this sheet is included in the current issue.
