The Memphis Fire Department invites you to the 2nd Annual Back-to-School Giveaway to help students start the school year ready for success!

Join us Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Ed Rice Community Center.

Students of all ages are welcome to receive FREE school supplies while supplies last, including backpacks, notebooks, folders, paper, pencils, pens, and more.

✂️ FREE haircuts will also be available to help students look and feel their best for the new school year. Limited spots available.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Human Resource Manager Venita McNeal, who served the Memphis Fire Department with dedication and professionalism for 32 years.

Throughout her career, Venita made a lasting impact through her commitment to the men and women of the department.

Her kindness, leadership, and compassion touched countless lives, and the relationships she built over the years will never be forgotten.

Venita will be deeply missed by her colleagues and all who had the privilege of knowing and working alongside her. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her loved ones and ask that you please keep her family, friends, and coworkers in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.

Rest peacefully, Venita. It was an honor to have you as part of the Memphis Fire Department family.

☀️ Beat the Heat: Cooling Center Open Early Today

The City of Memphis’ Emergency Cooling Center will be OPEN today, Friday, July 3, from 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. to provide relief from the extreme heat.

Free transportation to the Hospitality Hub will begin at 11:00 a.m. To request transportation, please call the Hospitality Hub’s dedicated transportation line at 901-486-0939.

If you or someone you know needs relief from the heat, please take advantage of this cooling location. Staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged time outdoors, and checking on older adults, children, neighbors, and others who may be vulnerable can help prevent heat-related illness.
