Happy Women's History Month!!!!
in 1955, 15-year-old Claudette Colvin refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus in Montgomery, Alabama — nine months before Rosa Parks’ historic protest.
During a CBS Morning interview in 2021, Colvin said she wouldn’t give up her spot on the bus because “History had me glued to the seat."
Colvin’s courage helped lay the groundwork for the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the legal challenges that followed. Though her story was not widely recognized at the time, her actions were a powerful stand against injustice.
Her story reminds us that the movement for civil rights was shaped by young voices willing to demand change.
Visit Claudette’s exhibit feature in the museum this March. Book your tickets today at https://civilrightsmuseum.org/visit/.
