Khadijah Farrakhan, the First Lady of the Nation of Islam and beloved wife of Minister Louis Farrakhan, has passed away. The Nation of Islam announced her passing Saturday saying she had "returned to Allah" after 72 years of marriage to the Minister. She was 90 years old.
Born in 1935 Khadijah married Louis Farrakhan in 1953 and converted to Islam in 1955. As Farrakhan rose to lead the Nation of Islam she stood by his side as a stabilizing force for their family. Together they raised nine children.
Khadijah was a powerful voice in her own right. At the 1997 Million Woman March in Philadelphia she took the stage and delivered words that still resonate. "A nation can rise no higher than its women," she said.
The family has faced significant loss in recent years. Their eldest son Louis Farrakhan Jr. died in 2018 and another son Joshua died in 2023. Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.

Tonea Nicole Miller, 27, traveled from Flint, Michigan to Miami to celebrate Juneteenth. On June 18 her body was found hanging from a tree near Gwen Cherry Park in Miami-Dade County around 6:20 a.m. The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office classified her death as an apparent su***de with no evidence of foul play.
Her family disputes that ruling. Relatives traveled to Miami, identified her body, and met with detectives. They described a su***de as out of character for Miller and raised questions about her missing phone. The family is seeking an independent autopsy for further clarity.
The full medical examiner's report including toxicology results remains pending. No active homicide investigation has been announced. The Sheriff's Office extended condolences to the family and asked anyone with information to come forward.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office.

Daniel Cressy grew up in Metairie, Louisiana dreaming of becoming a commercial pilot. Then he learned the FAA would not license him because he had been diagnosed with sickle cell disease since infancy. Instead of giving up he spent two years pursuing a cure through gene editing therapy at Manning Family Children's Hospital in New Orleans.
The process required collecting his cells, sending them to Scotland to be genetically modified, then returning for chemotherapy before the modified cells were infused back into his body. On Monday he rang a ceremonial bell and was declared the first person in the Gulf Coast region to be functionally cured of sickle cell disease using CRISPR technology.
Louisiana produces more sickle cell cases per capita than any other state. Cressy's cure is being celebrated as a breakthrough for thousands of families across the region.
He is already working on a book called Blessing in the Skies and a nonprofit called the Privileged Pilots Project. "While many spend their lives searching for purpose, mine found me," he said. "Now I can spend my life fulfilling it."

Big Tigger, whose real name is Darian Morgan, was arrested by Sandy Springs police and booked into Fulton County Jail on June 20 on felony charges of aggravated battery and third-degree cruelty to children. The charges stem from a June 9 incident. The 53-year-old was released the same day on a $10,000 bond.
Morgan is best known as the former host of BET's Rap City and currently hosts The Big Tigger Morning Show on Atlanta's V-103. He also serves as the public address announcer and in-game host for the Atlanta Hawks.
On June 12 Morgan posted a video addressing what he called speculation about his public life. "These allegations and accusations that have been circulating about me are false, untrue, not happening, didn't happen," he said.
Tigger has not confirmed the arrest but shared a cryptic Instagram post Monday night. "Life is a cruel teacher," he wrote.
"She loves to give you the test first, and the lesson later."
