The original word for "coffee," in Arabic, was "qahhwat-al-bun," which literally means “wine of the bean.” The term was shortened to "qahwat," and the Turkish called it “kahve.” Dutch traders called the popular drink “koffie,” which led to the name “coffee” in America.
