🇺🇸⚽️ Tonight, the USMNT takes on Belgium in the FIFA World Cup's Round of 16. As someone who grew up playing soccer in nearby Toms River, coached my daughter’s youth soccer team for ten years, and began following the Philadelphia Union since their 2010 debut in Chester, I'm excited, and proud that five members of the USMNT have strong ties to Delaware County and our region.

⚽️ Auston Trusty — Defender, #6, grew up right here in Media. He played for the Nether Providence Soccer Club before leading his Penncrest High School team, and is a product of the Union Academy, one of the country’s premier youth development pipelines.

⚽️ Matt Freese — Goalkeeper, #24, from Wayne, is another standout shaped by the Union system, as are Mark McKenzie, Defender, #22, from Bear, Delaware, and Brenden Aaronson, Midfielder, #11, from Medford, New Jersey.

⚽️ Christian Pulisic — Forward and team captain, #10, grew up in Hershey, just a short ride down the turnpike.

📜 Today marks the anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, signed into law on July 2 — a landmark commitment to ending discrimination based on race, color, religion, s*x, or national origin. Its passage came only after years of courage, sacrifice, and determined advocacy.

✊🏾 We honor the leadership and sacrifices of civil rights icons like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, John Lewis, Thurgood Marshall, Bayard Rustin, Fannie Lou Hamer, Ella Baker — and countless others whose work at all levels of society expanded legal protections that benefit all Americans today.

🇺🇸 Their hard-fought legacy reminds us that progress is never guaranteed, and we must stay vigilant against those who would steer our country toward a less just and less inclusive future. Honoring the Civil Rights Act means protecting the freedoms it secured and continuing the work of building a society rooted in equality, dignity, respect, and opportunity for all.
