📢 Today, my Democratic caucus colleagues and I were frustrated to see the Senate majority recess without passing a budget. My colleagues and I voted NO on the recess — we voted to stay in session because we should finish the job. The PA Constitution mandates the state legislature pass a budget by June 30th, something our school districts are able to accomplish every year.

⚠️ We know exactly what happens when Harrisburg misses this deadline. Just last year, counties and school districts all across our commonwealth had to borrow money just to keep basic services running. Child welfare, mental health treatment, domestic violence programs, and addiction services went weeks without state reimbursements. Nonprofits burned through reserves and laid off staff. Schools froze hiring and delayed early education programs. Real harm. Real people.

💵 Without a budget, school districts and agencies can’t plan, can’t stabilize operations, and can’t secure federal matching dollars — affecting workers, seniors, students, and the entire regional economy.
