10 a.m. to noon for Business, Computing & Social Sciences and Workforce and Economic Development divisions
2 to 4 p.m. for Allied Health & Nursing, Communication, Arts & Humanities and Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics divisions

What is National Skilled Trades Day?

Observed annually on the first Wednesday in May, this day honors the men and women in the United States who work in specialized hands-on fields. It was established in 2019 by City Machine Technologies in Youngstown, Ohio, to raise awareness about the skilled labor shortage and to encourage more people to consider these rewarding careers.

Why It Matters:

Economic Backbone: Skilled trades include critical roles like electricians, mechanics, welders, carpenters, plumbers, and healthcare technicians.

High Demand: About 94% of contractors struggle to find qualified workers, creating massive opportunities for new entrants.

College Alternative: Most trade careers require only a certification or an apprenticeship, allowing workers to enter the workforce faster and often with little to no student debt.

Job Security: These roles are resistant to automation and cannot be easily outsourced, ensuring long-term stability.
