Today on the bench: 335 Revive. For those of you whom have visited the shop you may recall this guitar body that has been sitting on a stand in the corner of my workbench forever. This guitar was run over by a car and the neck was broken. I had a hard time locating a replacement neck and finally ended up modifying a Les Paul neck to bring this 335 copy back to life. The body of the guitar was scratched from the accident and got a buffing and polishing to bring back the shine. The neck required cutting a double step to allow for clearance for the pickup rings without damaging the binding and leaving a little black enameled wood to clean up the joint where the neck seat pocket meets the top. I used a table saw with a 60 tooth blade for the cuts and a miniature belt sander to round the corners and hand filed and sanded it tight fit in the pocket. The fresh wood areas were coated with sanding sealer. The neck got a fret leveling, end filing, crowning and polishing followed by an oil treatment. New holes were drilled to install the old hardware and a set of 10-46 strings and setting the action and intonation completed the install. All in all, it was great to give this old guitar new life and deliver it to its owner.

Today on the bench: 1930’s Martin f-hole Archtop. The beautiful guitar had multiple splits in the headstock from more than one set of poorly installed tuning pegs. The top required a couple of weeks of hydration. The original nut got a repair rather than replacements

Today on the bench: Picture purrrfect purple PRS. This pretty PRS came in for a tuneup and got a full polishing and complete set up.

Today on the bench: Walnut tripple humbucker Les Paul Custom ! This guitar is a beast! Might be the heaviest guitar I’ve ever played! Such a beautiful instrument and sustain for days…. It’s still ringing….
