I can't imagine waking up each day without a realization that our time here on earth has a very specific purpose and what we should be doing with our time here. In an eternal plan, the mortal experience is a Chance of A Lifetime. The written messages of the Bible can be confusing. However, the Apostles and Prophets gave sermons and wrote letters to Church members that are clear in our purpose here. There is a glorious Plan of Salvation which we are beneficiaries of. The Atonement of Christ opens unbelievable opportunities to each of us. Get a copy of my book and I think you'll be very happy with the messages of guidance and hope.
God's commandments are not limitations, but rather tools that help us become more like him. The entire purpose of our life is to become the best person we can. This is the person we will be throughout eternity. When we die we don't magically become something we are not.

Romans 8:16-17: "The Spirit itself beareth witness to our spirit, that we are children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together."
