Let’s talk ollas (clay pots used for watering gardens):

💦 Watering the garden in the south can be challenging. There are many methods to effectively watering a garden from sprinklers to drip irrigation. However, I have found a new love for getting deep watering for healthy plants. They are called ollas.

💦 Ollas are used in African countries. These pots are put directly into the soil for plants’ roots to grow towards to get water. Because the pots are made out of clay, they are porous and release water only when necessary.

💦I am able to fill the pots about once a week using rain water that I collect. My plants don’t stress about finding water instead they grow their roots towards the pots. It saves me so much time and stress of having to spend a lot of time watering.

💦 “Real” ollas can be pricy. I simply got terracotta pots (with their lids to place on top) and plugged the hole on the pot with a cork stopper. I sealed the stopper before placing in the garden. So much cheaper! It takes about 10 minutes to fill the pots each week.
