Thursday morning, your Maumelle firefighters hosted the first session of the City of Maumelle Government CIVICS ACADEMY at Fire Station 1 giving residents an up close, behind-the-scenes look at how your fire department operates. Attendees were able to take a ride in Tower 2's 100' aerial platform, try on protective clothing and extinguish an actual fire using fire extinguishers.

Your Maumelle firefighters were honored to attend the Promotion Ceremony for Police Chief Dustin Ivey this afternoon. Hired by the city in 2002, Chief Ivey initially served as a Public Safety Officer before the Department of Public Safety split into separate fire and police departments. So, although he has had a successful law enforcement career, he does know what it's like to wear turnouts -- which is what he was doing when a resident of Audubon Pointe snapped this photo after a fire alarm in October 2004. Congratulations, Chief Ivey!

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Captain Andrew Estell of the Sherwood Fire Department. Our thoughts are with his family, his brothers and sisters in the fire service, and all who had the honor of serving alongside him.
