The road is now back open.

Traffic Alert - E. John Street is currently closed between McKee Road and I-485 due to a vehicle crash. There is currently no time estimate on when the road will reopen.

Newest Addition!

Please help us welcome Officer Ernest Peace to the MPD family!

Ernest was born and raised in Charlotte, where he graduated from Mallard Creek High School in 2016. He has proudly served in the Army National Guard for 10 years. Ernest was hired as a Matthews Police Department Police Officer Trainee in January of 2026, and attended South Piedmont Community College to earn his Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) Certification to become a sworn officer.

Officer Peace will be assigned to the Patrol Division.

One week until our Independence Day Festivities!

On Friday, July 3, kick off the evening at Stumptown Park on from 5-8:30pm for our Family Celebration! Enjoy food trucks, inflatables, glitter tattoos, balloon twisting, an Uncle Sam stilt walker, and a performance by The Hitmen Party Band!

Afterwards, make your way to the Mecklenburg County Sportsplex (or another viewing area of your choice) for our Fireworks Spectacular, which is free and open to the public.

Vehicles should enter the Sportsplex via Brigman Road. Staff will be on site to direct you to a parking area beginning in the stadium lot, to the upper lot near fields 1-4, then the grass lots on Sports Parkway. (In that order)

Launch time is scheduled for 9:30pm, however this could be a little later, depending on weather and visibility. Stay tuned to our social media accounts for updates!
