Good a article, though there’s an important point Star did not point out is that no matter how well students know the different strategies, formulas and tools in solving math problems, middle and high school students will not know how to apply any of them unless they understand what the Math problem is all about.

That’s what I found out when I switched from applied sciences as an engineering consultant to teaching Math, is that when given word problems, students don’t know how to even get started BECAUSE STUDENTS LACKED THE SKILLS IN READING AND COMPREHENSION.

Therefore those early years in school, learning how to read and comprehend—stories, paragraphs, essays are truly the cornerstone in learning.

Today we celebrate the last day of the STEM Summer Camp of the Inspire Learning Institute fo 2017. We started the week with coding, programming, and assembly of minicomputers. Then we had BioChemistry and DNA extraction. We also had three days of robotics assembly and testing during the week. This morning we will have our youthful future scientists and engineers using the computers they assembled to face the challenges using the robots they assembled programmed. We have worked and collaborated with fabulous and gifted scientists, engineers and professionals to make this happen. Much reason to be grateful, humbled and happy... Sanny Leviste

Day 3: STEM campers had fun with BioChemistry. They learned terminologies on the subject DNA, extracted their DNA from cheek cells, and made necklace pendant of their DNA.

Thanks to pledges received from Tom Guarino with PG&E and Grant Traill with AT&T, Inspire Learning Institute is holding a one week STEM Summer Camp, free to students of Central Contra Costa County. Having not to rent the facility, made this year's STEM camp possible, through a partnership with Community Youth Center. Another testament to the cliche "It takes a village"-- to prepare our youth to a bright, successful future!
