County Line Veterinary Hospital
07/02/2026
We're entering into a stretch of potentially dangerous weather over the next few days where the chances of heat stroke for humans and pets is very real. Temperatures will be pushing or exceeding 90 degrees with high humidity depending on your location, so please be sure to take extra precautions to avoid an emergency trip to the ER or vet clinic.
Things not to do:
❌ Leave your pet in the car (yes, even with the AC running)
❌ Decide the next few days are a good days to take up hiking with your pet
❌ Keep your pet outside without access to water and shade for long periods of time
❌ Walk your pet on pavement, concrete, or any other hot surface
❌ Forget your secret bag of M&Ms in the center console. Again.
Things we suggest you do:
✅ Leave your pets at home where they can lounge on the couch
✅ Look at reels of people hiking with their pets for inspiration to go hiking with your pet when the weather is safe to do so
✅ Limit outdoor time and potty breaks (and no zoomies!)
✅ Keep your pet in shady, grassy areas to protect their sensitive toe beans from burns
✅ Bring your favorite veterinary team ice cream sandwiches when you stop at the store to get yourselves a lil' treat too
(The last one is optional, I guess... but *highly* encouraged)
Our biggest thing on our list of suggestions, though, is to educate yourself on the signs of heat stroke and what to do if you suspect your pet is suffering from heat stroke. It takes *less than 15 minutes* for a dog to die from heat stroke, so please monitor them closely over these next few days!
