Hello, I'm sending updated news from Nativearth. We have received notice from the Marketplace Director of the Renaissance Pleasure Faire that Renaissance Entertainment Productions, (REP) will not be extending our contract for the 2026 season.
After 18 years in this show, I’m bewildered and distressed by this letter. Additionally, I've spoken to other handmade artists who are not welcomed back. We are confused by this direction REP has taken.
In yesteryears, at many events across the country, banners were hung at our doors proudly displaying our handmade status. We felt protected and honored. Isn't this exactly how the originator of Living History, Phyllis Patterson, envisioned the Pleasure Faire over 70 years ago?
REP in the past has protected handmade artists, giving the Pleasure Faire a distinctive status while presenting the best of the best. However, in my 32 years cobbling footwear and accessories, I've watched the Renaissance Arena change. This new marketplace is most certainly diminished if Handmade is being eliminated.
Will our Patrons spend the day at Faire looking for the exceptional quality products they are used to finding? How long will it take our patrons to discover the Faire is offering what they can find online? Will Handmade Artists survive, when they are no longer invited to sell what they have created?
Most Patrons and Participants are savvy experts and understand they are being offered a product that is not mass produced. They enter Nativearth and are exposed to the history of cobbling and our historic footwear origins. They are guided to a throne where we look at their feet, speak of their concerns and listen to them. Our fittings are personal and important in achieving the best possible fit. Our passion is evident; we are honored by each connection.
Does the Pleasure Faire and our Nativearth mission align? Regrettably, I think not!

A snug fit at first is normal. With wear, your shoes will gain a bit of length and width for a custom feel.

Clean gently with water and a drop of mild soap or saddle soap.

Stuff with newspaper to help them dry and hold shape.
