TRAFFIC ALERT: Motorists who travel Illinois 37 south of Marion should prepare for a full weekend road closure beginning Friday evening.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says Illinois 37 will close in both directions at 6 p.m. Friday, July 17, between Norris Road and Maxine Lane, about one mile south of Marion. The closure is needed so crews can replace a culvert beneath the roadway as part of the ongoing Illinois 37 improvement project.

A signed detour will direct traffic along Illinois 148 and Interstate 57 while the road is closed. The closure is expected to remain in place through 6 a.m. Monday, July 20, weather permitting.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, follow posted detour signs, avoid distractions, and watch for workers and equipment in and around the construction zone.
