The results are in and it did not go the way I had hoped. Congratulations to Patrick Windhorst. I told Patrick that I hope he has lots of success in Springfield representing the 117th. Because if he has success, then the region will also. I told him I will do whatever I can to assist him. I would like to thank my family for their support and I would like to thank ALL of the people who helped me putting out signs, flyers and giving up their time to help. I truly appreciate all of your help. I have had the opportunity to meet lots of people I did not know before. It has been my pleasure to get to know you and build friendships. This door was closed tonight, but who knows what doors might open down the road. I will still keep working to bring new business to Southern Illinois and improve our lives right here so our young people and families won’t be forced to leave for better opportunities elsewhere. I’m honored for AFSCME’s support. We are all in agreement that the Dixon Springs Work Camp needs to be reopened and bring those jobs back. And that’s just the beginning!

Ron Ellis served 12 years as a Williamson County commissioner where he was an outspoken ally of union members against Bruce Rauner’s attacks on workers’ rights.

Ron opposes cuts to public employee pensions and will fight any attempt to weaken or eliminate the state Constitution’s pension protection clause.

A certified public accountant, Ron understands the importance of adequate funding for state and local governments. He’ll advocate for safer staffing in state prisons and juvenile justice facilities.
