With Hurricane Helene scheduled to make landfall in the Florida Panhandle in the early morning hours, here are some common sense tips for my Atlanta-area friends from someone who lived in South Florida for 25+ years and was there for Hurricane Andrew:
1- Despite the scary colors on the TV screen, YOU ARE NOT GOING TO DIE!
2- The news is nothing but alarmist media, whose only goal is to get you to tune in for as long as possible so they can increase their advertising revenue
3- The news is going to focus on the areas of most damage so you can be frightened into staying home, watching continuous coverage of the weather, and remaining fearful
4- This is a FAST-MOVING storm with a lot of moisture- it will rush through the area quickly, and the skies will be mostly clear by Saturday.
5- With the speed of the storm and the high winds, you may lose power, tree limbs may fall, roads may experience short term flooding- DON'T PANIC
6- There will be high winds that will make loose objects fly across the area (trash cans, debris, light lawn furniture). Be smart and secure whatever objects you can to minimize potential damage for yourself and your neighbors.
7- After the storm passes, please refrain from exploring possible damage in the area. Those involved in emergency operations need the greatest access possible to get repairs done quickly.
8- There are things you can do to prepare yourself (just in case) and ease your anxiety:
- Fill your car with gas (if power goes out, gas pumps do not work)
- Fill a few gas cans (3-5 gallons should suffice) as a reserve for generators, vehicles, etc
- Gather important phone numbers of friends/family to check in on them
- Report a power outage to the proper service provider. While their systems automatically keep track of outages, logging a report may speed repairs to your area
- Get a few gallons of drinking water ready- excess flooding may lead to contamination reports or boil water orders for local utilities. Having sufficient drinking water available leads to less worry.
- For the 5-7 days after the storm passes, local utility companies, home service providers (roofing, tree companies, electricians, etc), and road operations will be stretched thin as they try to prioritize repairs to serve the greatest need- YOU ARE NOT AS IMPORTANT AS YOU THINK YOU ARE- this means that you need to be as self-sufficient as possible.
- "WEST IS BEST" with a hurricane, the Northeast quadrant is always the strongest, both in wind and rain. If you need to travel for supplies or evacuation, plan to drive 2-3 hours west of the storm's path and you should be able to stock up on everything you need.

One of my farmers market customers contacted me and asked if they could purchase larger sized bottles of a couple of my roller blends that had worked well for them.
As a custom order I created a 1oz roller for one and a 2oz dropper of the other. Both are properly blended for topical use on the skin.
So... if you ever wondered about getting larger sizes of the oils/ blends that have worked for you, the answer is a resounding YES!
