On today’s date, April 19, 249 years ago in 1775, British regulars faceoff against local colonial militia at Lexington and Concord, MA. The British soldiers were under secret orders to capture and destroy Colonial military supplies reportedly stored by the Massachusetts militia at Concord and to arrest rebel leaders John Hancock and Samuel Adams.

The previous day, on the afternoon of April 18 Lieutenant Colonel Francis Smith received orders from General Thomas Gage, the military governor of Massachusetts and commander-in-chief of about 3,000 British military garrisoned in Boston, with instructions that he was not to read them until his troops were underway.
He was to proceed from Boston "with utmost expedition and secrecy to Concord, where you will seize and destroy ... all Military stores ... But you will take care that the soldiers do not plunder the inhabitants or hurt private property." Gage used his discretion and did not issue written orders for the arrest of Hancock and Adams, as he feared doing so might spark an uprising. Major John Pitcairn commanded ten elite light infantry companies (700 soldiers), and Lieutenant Colonel Benjamin Bernard commanded 11 grenadier companies, under the overall command of Lieutenant Colonel Smith.

When Pitcairn’s soldiers reached Lexington at sunrise, they found about 80 Lexington minutemen emerging from Buckman Tavern under the command of Captain John Parker. A British officer, possibly Pitcairn, then rode forward, waving his sword, and called out for the assembled militia to disperse, and may also have ordered them to "lay down your arms, you damned rebels! Captain Parker told his men instead to disperse and go home, but, because of the confusion, the yelling all around, and due to the raspiness of Parker's tubercular voice, some did not hear him, some left very slowly, and none laid down their arms. Both Parker and Pitcairn ordered their men to hold fire, but a shot was fired...a shot heard round the world....from an unknown source.

The regulars then charged forward with bayonets. Captain Parker's cousin Jonas was run through. Eight Lexington men were killed, and ten were wounded. The only British casualty was a soldier who was wounded in the thigh. The eight colonists killed were John Brown, Samuel Hadley, Caleb Harrington, Jonathon Harrington, Robert Munroe, Isaac Muzzey, Asahel Porter, and Jonas Parker. Jonathon Harrington, fatally wounded by a British musket ball, managed to crawl back to his home, and died on his own doorstep. One wounded man, Prince Estabrook, was a black slave who was serving in the militia.

The British marched on to Concord, but enough time had lapsed for more militia to assemble at Concord. The two sides met at North Bridge. The British regulars engaged first firing three shots, probably in panic, which prompted the British line to think the order had been given to fire a volley before their commander could stop them. Two Acton Minutemen, Private Abner Hosmer and Captain Isaac Davis, who were at the head of the line marching to the bridge, were hit and killed instantly and four men were wounded. Major John Buttrick then yelled to the militia, "Fire, for God's sake, fellow soldiers, fire!"

The American Revolutionary War had begun.

The disgraceful Chair of the Cobb County Democratic Party, Jacquelyn Bettadpur, compares the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan with the signing of SB 202. What a disgusting embarrassment the Cobb Democratic leadership is! The Taliban is murdering LGBTQ civilians and selling children into s*x slavery, but, in the minds of Cobb's Democrat leaders, that’s exactly the same thing as SB 202. In a sane world, Bettadpur would be forced to resign in disgrace. But I doubt even the MDJ will notice this. We must remember this in Nov. 2022.

Despite rumors to the contrary, there is only ONE position for Chairman I’m running for, and that’s Chairman of the Georgia Republican Party! The question is whether or not David Shafer is only running for Chairman and will complete a full term, or quickly resign to run for Lt. Governor. I’m committed to Georgia’s Grassroots Republicans and pledge to serve as Chairman for a full term.

The Georgia Republican Party website should be a hub of information for party activists, grassroots leaders, and volunteers. Instead, all it has is a donate and subscribe button! We were promised in 2019 that the party would “utilize technology to spread our conservative message,” but instead our technology says very little.

The GAGOP has the best website that 1997 technology could provide.

The GAGOP needs a technology boost! We should constantly be updating content, providing easily shareable information across all social media platforms, and geared too all generations of Republicans.

As Chairman of the Cobb County Republican Party, Jason Shepherd did exactly that. As State Chair, he will make sure the Georgia Republican Party is ready to communicate in the 21st century, and that will start with GAGOP.org.
