So it's been quite awhile since I updated this page/journal for Dave. So after months of dealing with pain when wearing prosthetic and multiple scans and imaging and trips to docs offices, he will be going in for surgery on his stump on January 2nd. It's not just a little incision as we thought. They will go in through the incision he has to remove what they feel at this point is a bone spur. Praying not infection too as I'm told this is also common and can hide in amputees. On top of this recent blood work shows he has stage 3 kidney disease. Needs to start drinking a lot of water. If all goes well then sometime in the future he will need a left reverse shoulder replacement. But one thing at a time as this surgery will prevent him from walking for several weeks again until incision is completely healed, he will need to get refitted for a new socket which takes time to make and multiple trips to office. Obviously he will not be able to drive anything during this time except his motorized wheel chair. All prayers are welcomed if that is your thing or just good thoughts our way. This is all just the physical aspect of this new life. The emotional toll it is taking on both of us is an entirely different story.

Well it's been a really long time since I updated this page. Dave is now on his second socket due to shrinkage of the residual leg. It takes several weeks for this to be accomplished. In the meantime his current socket had gotten loose and was padded but still did not remain in place well which causes all sorts of issues. All of this throws a person's entire gait off. With pre-existing back and hip issues this has all been a painful and exhausting process to continue to try and learn how to navigate with the prosthetic. He also has bad shoulders, recently got a cortisone shot but after two days he's not really feeling any relief so we are hoping with time it will. You use your upper body more to compensate so he is getting a work out and already had an old rotator cuff tare fixed years ago but has another now in each shoulder. Best route would be to get that fixed but that would put him in an impossible position, doing basic daily living activities like getting to and from the bathroom toilet or even a commode and shower very difficult. He is waiting for a better mobility chair, a hoover round that should be more comfortable to sit in. Today he had a lump removed outpatient that was where one of his drain tubes were when in hospital that caused a hematoma on rib cage. It was a lot bigger the surgeon said "deceiving" were his exact words from feeling it from the outside and grew since the ultra sound several weeks ago. It is being routinely biopsied. But he feels it is nothing to be concerned about. His happies times is watching his grandson play baseball on the game change app on his phone, thank God for modern technology, and we are hoping when the weather gets nicer he can attend some games. May be one day in the future we can take a much needed vacation, just having difficulty figuring out where.
Anywho just an update and may be one of the last updates.
