Blink twice… what exactly is this thrift store piece? 😂

This week, we are covering all things, Lucite!!

Lucite handbags gained massive popularity in the 1950s, showcasing the talent and ingenuity of so many young designers of that day!

Lucite was created by DuPont in 1931 (sorry for the error during filming 😅) and became a popular acrylic plastic, especially after being used for military applications during World War II. Its commercial use exploded in the late 1940s and 1950s, leading to its widespread use in fashion items like handbags and jewelry, as well as furniture and other products.

I absolutely adore these bags, not only for their appearance but also for what they symbolize. The idea of a world with very little plastic, where the items which are made from it can still be used 70+ years later, is something this 90's baby yearns for. I highly recommend you add a lucite bag to your "thrift bucket list" because you will never have a bag this durable/resistant to stains/damage! They are also great for those secured events that require a see-through bag!!
