Grateful to Jim Kelly for the shoutout on the CBS NFL pregame show. It was an absolute honor to share the hunt with a legend on and off the field.

Had an incredible time speaking at the Carrington Charitable Foundation event. I want to thank the Carrington Foundation and the Rose family for not only having me, but for always being there. Your support means the world, and it was truly an amazing event.

I can’t believe I’m making this post. What was once just a dream is now a reality. Hunting is my passion, but the truth is I can’t do these things alone. Because of the generosity of so many people, I was able to live this dream here in British Columbia with Fire Mountain Outfitters.

Brandon and Rena told me back at SCI in Nashville that they wanted to bring me up here and try to get me on a moose. I told them I’d give it everything I had, and here we are. I flew into B.C., made it out to their ranch, hopped on a float plane into camp, boated out to an island, and on the very first evening I harvested this bull. Most years it seems like I tag out on the last day, but this year it happened on the first.

My guide Axel, a Canadian military veteran and fellow airborne brother, was right there beside me. Taylor, Brandon and Rena’s daughter, wrangled on this hunt and kept everything running smooth. The next day Brandon’s son Riley came into camp and helped prep the moose to get it out. He also spent the rest of the week in camp with me, which made the whole experience even more memorable. It was truly a family effort from start to finish.

The weather was perfect, the country was beautiful, and the bull is one I’ll never forget. Big bodied, heavy horned, and everything you imagine when you dream of moose country.

This trip isn’t over. I’ve got plenty more pictures and videos to share, but I needed to pause and say thank you to everyone who made this possible. A special thanks to Neil Hillard for playing such a big part in making this dream come true, and to Brandon and Rena for not only inviting me but treating me like family.

Every time I’m blessed with a harvest, I can’t help but think back to that hospital bed years ago. Legs gone, arms wrapped up, no working hands, wondering if I’d ever hunt again. Because of people who believe in me, support me, and give me these opportunities, I’m still living this dream.

Big thanks as well to Kryptek for keeping me warm, and to Chêne Gear for the custom waders, definitely needed when you drop a moose in the water.

Set up in Forest City for RAGBRAI meeting riders from all over and sharing my story. This isn’t just a ride it’s proof that no matter what you’ve been through you keep moving forward. Come find me.

The morning of graduation rehearsal, most people were sleeping in or getting ready to walk the stage. Me and Andy? We were chasing gobbles. I dropped this bird and we still made it to practice on time.

Get Andy’s perspective on this hunt and a whole lot more in my new book Beyond Five Minutes
