Before You Judge the Patch
It is easy to criticize someone else's ministry when you have never walked where they walk.
Key Scripture
John 7:24 (ESV) "Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment."

1 Samuel 16:7 (ESV) …"The LORD sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart."
Recently someone looked at a patch on my vest in a picture and believed they knew everything about our ministry.
Without asking a single question... Without hearing a single testimony... Without meeting the men and women we serve...
They condemned both the patch and the ministry.
That reminded me of another group.
The Pharisees.
They saw Jesus eating with sinners and assumed He approved of their sin.
They watched Him touch lepers and assumed He was becoming unclean.
They watched Him speak with prostitutes, tax collectors, and outcasts and concluded He could not possibly be from God.
What they never understood was this:
Jesus never became like sinners. He went where sinners were because they needed a Savior.
There is a huge difference.
For years our ministry has walked beside people most churches never meet.
We've stood beside hospital beds.
We've prayed after motorcycle crashes.
We've buried fathers.
We've officiated weddings.
We've sat in prison visiting rooms.
We've cried with widows.
We've helped families pay bills.
We've simply loved people who often believe the church has already rejected them.
Most of that work has never been photographed. Most of it has never been posted online. Almost none of it receives applause.
Yet some people believe they understand everything because of one small patch.
That is exactly why God warned us not to judge by appearances.
Many Christians are comfortable loving people who already look like Christians.
Jesus loved people before they looked like Christians.
That is far harder.
If your theology causes you to criticize people before you know their story, perhaps the heart that needs examination is not theirs—but your own.
Jesus never asked, "Are they respectable enough for My presence?"
He simply said,
"Follow Me."
Perhaps instead of asking why missionaries spend time with broken people, we should ask why so few Christians do.

Before criticizing another believer's ministry, ask questions before making conclusions. Learn their story. Pray for them. You may discover God is working in places you never expected.

The next time you see someone whose ministry looks different from yours, don't start with criticism.
Start with curiosity.
You may find Jesus is already there.

Prayer
Father, Guard my heart from becoming proud or self-righteous. Help me never judge another servant by appearances alone. Give me the compassion of Christ, who walked toward sinners instead of away from them. May my life be known not for criticism but for faithfulness, humility, and love. Help me see people as You see them and serve wherever You send me.

Faith When You Cannot See the Road
Key Scriptures: Proverbs 3:5–6, Hebrews 11, Genesis 50:20

Proverbs 3:5–6 (ESV)
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths."
Have you ever wished God would simply hand you a map of your future? Most of us have. We want to know how our health will turn out, whether the bills will get paid, if our family will heal, or when the grief will finally become bearable. Yet God rarely works that way. Instead of giving us the whole map, He gives us enough light to take the next faithful step.
Anyone who has ridden a motorcycle has likely experienced heavy fog. There are moments when you can only see twenty feet in front of you. You can't see the next curve, the next hill, or what lies beyond it. But you don't panic and abandon the bike. You slow down, stay focused, and trust the road is still there even though you cannot see it. You keep riding because you believe the road hasn't disappeared—it is simply hidden by the fog.
Life often feels exactly like that.
A cancer diagnosis, the loss of a job, financial pressure, the death of someone you love, or a relationship that seems beyond repair can surround your life with thick fog. You pray for answers, but heaven seems silent. You ask God to show you the entire journey, while He gently reminds you to trust Him with the next twenty feet.
That is what faith looks like.
Hebrews 11:1-2 (ESV) 1 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. 2 For by it the people of old received their commendation.
Hebrews 11 reminds us that the heroes of Scripture obeyed God long before they understood what He was doing. Abraham left home without knowing his destination. Noah built an ark before there was rain. Moses chose God's people before seeing the Promised Land. Faith has never been about having all the answers. Faith has always been about trusting the One who does.
Joseph is another powerful example. Betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, falsely accused, and forgotten in prison, he had every reason to believe God had abandoned him. Yet years later he could say,
Genesis 50:19–21(ESV) 19 But Joseph said to them, “Do not fear, for am I in the place of God? 20 As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today. 21 So do not fear; I will provide for you and your little ones.” Thus he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.
God was writing a story Joseph could not read while he was living it.
Perhaps that's where you are today.
You may not understand why this chapter has entered your life, but you can trust the Author. God is never surprised by your circumstances. He is never late. He is never confused. While you see only today's fog, He sees tomorrow's sunrise.
Don't wait until everything makes sense before you obey. Forgive when He tells you to forgive. Pray when you don't feel like praying. Worship even through tears. Keep serving. Keep trusting. Keep taking the next faithful step.
God rarely reveals the entire journey because He wants us to know Him more than He wants us to know the future.
Big Truth: Faith is choosing obedience before understanding.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, when the road ahead is hidden by fear, uncertainty, or pain, remind me that You see what I cannot. Help me trust You instead of my own understanding. Give me courage to take the next step in obedience, even when I don't know where the road leads. Thank You for never leaving me, never forsaking me, and for guiding me one step at a time. Strengthen my faith today so that others may see Your faithfulness through my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
