George Coleman Jr

I did a recording with Brian Charette, Paul Bollenback, with George Coleman Sr. as a Special guest, which came out last month. It was a typical George Sr. affair, and even though it was Brian's date, George Sr. called all of the tunes In fact, he would just start playing, and we would have to figure it out while the tape was rolling. Which wouldn't be that difficult if we at least knew the key and he didn't create his own on the spot arrangements. Coupled with some drama on the date and after its miracle, it even came out! George Coleman Sr. is old school, no rehearsals, no tune list, one take, no original keys or time signatures, just play the music and shut the F up! 😂😂😂

Had a chance last night to see three great masters honor at as part of great two part concert and were absolutely masterful with the evening’s leader I’ve known for many years and was fortunate enough to play many gigs together and he hasn’t changed a bit in the 30 plus years we’ve know each. It’s rare to be a master at your craft, humble, strong but also a kind soul. Here’s wishing all three of these greats the best and more trio gigs together please!
