Orlando Math Circle
🎉 We’ve been keeping a secret… we’re 3 weeks into our summer program at Boys & Girls Club Tangelo, and we have math rhythm!
Here’s what a week looks like:
🔢 Place Value Mondays — building number sense from the ground up using manipulatives and
╠Math Circle Tuesdays — collaborative games and problem-solving, no worksheets in sight
🛠️ Wednesday Build — hands-on engineering and design challenges
⚔️ Prottle Thursdays (“Problems Battle”) — teams solve logic-based Math Kangaroo USA problems and trade correct answers for moves in a board game. Plus bonus challenges along the way — jumping and skip counting, geography, puzzles, and reading — so every kid finds their way in. Solve more, move further!
🍕 Fraction Fridays — because fractions are way more fun with pizza
Three weeks in, and the kids already know the routine, are asking for their favorite day, and are diving into problems they would’ve called “too hard” a month ago. That’s the whole point — building confidence one week at a time. 💛
None of this would be possible alone. Through the Summer Mathematics Program Consortium, we’ve been so lucky to have friends across the country in our corner this summer:
📚 Math Circles of Chicago MC2 has shared their databank of detailed lesson plans with us
đź’» Math Circles of Chicago MC2 and and The Math Movement have met with us over Zoom to mentor and guide our team
✅ Math In The Mountains’ Lora Saarnio has been consistently coaching our team on content and presentation.
We’re also grateful to The Math Movement , our program’s official mentor — we recently visited their camp in Cleveland to learn directly from their model.
We are so grateful and feel truly blessed to have this kind of support behind us. đź’›
