SpikeHat Games

One of my favorite games! Always excited to get this one to the table, Spirit Island. This weekend we tried playing against the Kingdom of Sweden at level 3 with the Dahan Insurrection scenario… yea we lost horribly. This game can be so hard sometimes, but still so fun!

Outside of game design, the Hat enjoys pretty much all things John Williams. This past weekend involved going to the new Harry Potter store downtown in Chicago, and then afterwards watching Raiders of the Lost Ark with a live symphony!

Games games games! It’s been busy and fun at SpikeHat Games in 2026 so far, and lots more to come! We are currently building a prototype for Seadogs & Scallywags, and there’s a hidden hint within this post about what our next game will be about… lease a comment if you think you know!

What you've all been waiting for! These are SHG's first year financials, and we couldn't be prouder! Haha, jokes aside, Sam and I are excited for the new year, and bigger news about Seadogs & Scallywags as well as other games in the works will come later this month for those who have been following (or for those new too).

For those who don't know, I work in corporate accounting and have some years experience as an auditor preparing many financial statements. I'd love to help anyone out for those seeking advice/help with creating or maintaining their books for their business. It doesn't have to be a board game related business either, I'm always eager to meet new people in the gaming space and learn what they're all about.

It’s the new year and all today is Sam’s birthday! I would like to share that in honor of today (and later this month for my birthday) SpikeHat Games has a little surprise for all of our wonderful followers! Hint: it has something to do with our birthdays, and the answer has been brought up on our podcast before…

Games over the holidays! Destroyed my family in Scrabble with a 71 point play by playing all my tiles to spell “vineyard” by the way… yea I deserve the applaud for that, probably the first time beating my mom at a word game

Is this the world record for amount of dice accumulated without spending a single penny?!?

I must say, though, MonopolyGO does NOT have my endorsement. In my eyes, it doesn’t even qualify as a game… you can check out our podcast, Spikology and Life from the Perspective of a Hat, to learn more about what Sam and I consider to be games. There’s not much meaningful agency in this phone game, if any at all actually, and it seems very “pay-to-win”esque. Anyway, here I am, still logging on everyday to collect my dice… 🎲 😞

We had an awesome time at Protospiel Madison this past Saturday!! So many cool games and game designers! We met a ton of great people and played a bunch of great games!

Big thanks to everyone who said hi and gave our game Seadogs & Scallywags a try! We got a bunch of great feedback!

The board game community truly is one of the most supportive and friendliest communities out there, and we’re definitely looking forward to more events like this in the future!!

Only two more days until SpikeHat Games attends Protospiel in Madison, WI! If you will be there as well please come up and say hi and play our game, Seadogs & Scallywags! We are very excited to both play games from other designers and meet a bunch of new people. Hopefully, this weekend will be a rite of passage into the greater game designing and publishing world. This will be a big push to get the SpikeHat Games name out there!

Just got back from an insane Halloween display in Little Chute Wisconsin and wow! It's incredible how much some people get into the holidays and their enthusiasm is hard to ignore! My own decorations feel woefully inadequate haha!
