This lovely big tree is a Honey Locust, and most of those you see in town are thornless and podless thanks to human intervention and science.
The suckers that are coming out of the trunk on this one have re-naturalized, protesting humanity’s efforts for a kindler gentler tree.
The spikes are present to prevent large Pleistocene herbivores like Mastadons from eating the foliage. If you see one of those near your Honey Locust please text or call us at 608-234-5935!

Ah, summer. Let's flash it back to sunny days and short sleeves. Isabel took a break from trimming this big tree just long enough for us to get this picture. Peep the squirrel's nest on the branch next to her!
