Co-founder John Smedema, alongside his wife Linda, has become a powerful voice for neighbors facing hunger in Beaver Dam, and across Wisconsin. From sharing the stories of their guests to engaging local institutions and government officials, Loaves and Fishes works to ensure no need goes unmet.
Because advocacy isn’t just about awareness, it’s about impact.

Advocates from across the country gathered in Washington, D.C. this week for the Feeding America Fly-In, meeting with members of Congress. The timing was critical. ⏳

As lawmakers shaped federal nutrition policy, advocates from The Bridge to Hope and the Shawano Area Food Pantry and Resource Center, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin food bank and Feeding Wisconsin shared stories from their communities and highlighted the importance of programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) in helping families access food and supporting food banks across the country.

These conversations helped ensure that the voices of communities experiencing hunger were part of the discussion as decisions about the next Farm Bill moved forward.
