After uniting the Warring States, Emperor Qin began construction of the first "Great Wall" (not exactly the one thats there today).
To protect his tomb in the afterlife, Emperor Qin conscripted thousands of artisans to build a ceramic army -- each of the 8,000 soldiers, 130 chariots, 670 horses (found so far), entirely unique. For 2000 years they stood buried, until 1974 when farmers discovered fragments of pottery while digging a well. Eventually this revealed an underground army scattered across 22 square miles.

This image is of a Nok terracotta statue, found in Nigeria. Many very similar pieces have been found. These intricate masterpieces are the first widespread statuary in west Africa. What can archeologists learn from this piece, 2000 years later, about daily life?
