Question of the week: Microsoft has released Windows 11. Should I upgrade my computer to the new operating system?

Answer: Definitely not!

The new operating system is way too new to risk being a guinea pig while helping Microsoft find the bugs. I would give it at least a year before even giving it a second look.

The word on the IT street is that Windows 11 is a modest rewrite of Windows 10, and is surprisingly even more of a resource hog, which means Windows 11 will make your computer run noticeably slower. New computers equipped with Windows 11 seem to fare better than those that are upgraded, but they need much faster processors and more RAM to run efficiently. As such, Windows 11 appears to have been written to promote new computer sales.

More to the point, Windows 11 does not bring any enhanced functionality to the table, which renders the whole exercise senseless. What most users experience is change for change sake, not improved functionality. So why would that trip be necessary?

Sorry about the delays responding to HouseCall service requests lately. Due to unexpected surgery and agonizingly slow recovery, I have not been able to conduct business as usual for the last couple of weeks. Things seem to be improving day by day and I am gradually creeping back to normal functioning. If you've left me messages here, in voicemail or email, I have not forgotten you and will get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks.
