Héctor Colón wants to help keep Chippewa Falls residents alive and thriving, despite addiction and mental health issues. But that can be a tough fight.
The President and CEO of Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, Inc. has helped to bring LSS back from the brink of financial disaster. Now he and LSS want to create a new substance use treatment center in Chippewa Falls in the former L.E. Phillips-Libertas Treatment Center at 2301 Highway I.
The goal is for LSS to purchase the building and begin preparations for a late 2025 opening. But first LSS needs to raise about $3 million in capital.
ColĂłn is ready to fight for the funding, he said.
At the start of ColĂłnâs tenure in 2017, LSS hadnât met its budget for four years straight. When he took over as president, the organization had 800 employees and just $73,000 in its bank account, ColĂłn said.
âWe had to borrow to pay payroll,â he said. âToday, we have over $27 million of cash and investments.â
