Earlier today, Senator Eric Wimberger and I testified before the Assembly Environment Committee on two bills we authored to address PFAS contamination and release the $125 Million that has been set aside for clean up.

The Marinette–Peshtigo area is considered one of the most contaminated regions in the country. For nearly a decade, my constituents have relied on bottled water just to meet their basic needs.

Stakeholders on both sides of the aisle brought forward concerns with the bipartisan bills, but that is the reality of divided government—and it is not an excuse for inaction.

On Thursday, I was happy to attend an award ceremony for Laurie and Jon Rakowski of Pound, who were selected to receive one of the 2025 Governor's Outstanding Families Awards. To celebrate National Adoption Month, this award honors the contributions of outstanding relatives, like-kin, and non-relative foster, adoptive, and guardianship families throughout Wisconsin.

Laurie and John were recognized for their dedication to working collaboratively with birth families and preserving meaningful cultural connections. As caregivers to children from diverse backgrounds, they apply trauma-informed practices and establish healthy, supportive routines that help children feel safe and secure. Laurie and John place families at the center of their work, tirelessly ensuring that vital relationships are maintained and strengthened to support family unity.
