During our spring conference, keynote speaker Dr. Cate Denial challenged us to practice A Pedagogy of Kindness by reconsidering the meaning of self-care:

"Care should be about securing the time, energy, creativity, and rest we need to support our existence in all its wonderful, frustrating, liberating complexity."

May is national Mental Health Awareness Month. We encourage you to follow along with this calendar full of suggestions on how you might practice kindness for yourself in small yet meaningful actions every day.

A Pedagogy of Kindness helps to keep us oriented toward compassion, despite the pressures around us. Educators must extend kindness to themselves through boundaries, rest, and reflection before they can support others.
