Put a little arpeggio and thirds in your blues 😉

For the fam.
Para mi familia.
I started playing guitar, around 6 or 7 years old. My dad, "Big Oscar", is a self taught musician. My grandpa Dan, Mom's dad, comes from a long line of Sanchez and Cervantez who made a living outside of the fields up the 126 in California, playing music. Great Uncle David "Gordo" Sánchez was a great Trombone player in his day. So I guess it's only natural that I too picked up a guitar, after it skipped a generation. First came Elvis, then came Jimi, SRV, and BB King. I think it's the similarities in the yearning for love, love lost, and tough living in traditional Mexican music that made me feel a kinship for the blues. There's a lot of similarities if you listen closely.

As a young guitarists I wanted to be a blues man, but I thank the creator for my grandfather, and my parents singing, playing, and instilling these songs on my soul. Grandpa Dan "the man" Sanchez used to love to sing this song, and sang with passion and everything he had. I miss those family gatherings when I would do my best to keep up with him and my dad while we played songs like this for the fam. I hope he hears me every time I sing this song and make him proud. But I sing this for all of my family. All the generations. There's no greater love, in this eternity, from family - and those whom we call our family. I sing this for the generations I was never able to meet face to face - they made me.
As time goes on, I see how much we are all alike. All of us should get in touch with our ancestors and love them for all they are worth, so that we continue to carry our stories, lessons, and love through this existence. There's no money, fame, or possessions in this world that could ever equate to that, and the gift this life is.
I'd like to think if more people realized this, there be a little less suffering in this world for all of us to know love and family like this.
