“I want to feel healthier (and look better),”

Like happiness, health is an inside job.

If you’re like the men who answered in my survey that the most important reasons they wanted to lose weight and build strength / lean muscle

was to feel healthier (with “looking better” coming in second),

then you’re not alone.

What this says is that a lot of men, 40+ value how they feel just as much as how they look.

I also resonate with this.

Throughout 30 years of weightlifting, I spent the vast majority of that time feeling suboptimal in my overall health.

I battled chronic: fatigue, stress, depression and anxiety.

I ignored signals from my body as I continually ate and drank whatever I wanted.

Which left me with significant digestive distress and feeling sluggish all the time.

Managing my sleep or stress was not a priority.

At one point I went on TRT to try and increase my abysmal Testosterone levels.

Throughout the 2 years of treatment, I never changed my lifestyle habits and to no surprise

once I went off it, I was right back to where I started with very low T-levels and the same symptoms to go with it.

I was discouraged to say the least.

Ultimately it was a blessing because it got me thinking, “there has to be something I can do.”

With some research I found a lot of the same advice across multiple resources.

How I was treating my body through poor lifestyle choices was directly affecting my low T levels.

So I began taking more seriously my:

Sleep
Nutrition
Stress Management
Self-care activities
Training & Recovery
Hydration

I built new habits in each category to improve my mental and physical health.

Today I enjoy a lifestyle that is NOT restricted or deprived because the things I used to “enjoy,” were never serving me in the first place.

Lifting weights is just a part of a collective whole when it comes to your fitness goals let alone your overall health.

I’m passionate about helping men who seek to feel healthier.

In 7 days I’ll be announcing something very special for men 40+ who are aware that this is the time to start making real change happen.

Stay tuned.

06.08.24 || HYROX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS ‘24 Nice, France 🇫🇷.
Race and Results - Wow, what an epic experience to come halfway across the world to compete as an athlete against some of the fittest guys my age in the 🌎. Halfway through, my quads ceased up with some painful cramps and left me hobbling for the next 15-20 minutes. By that time it was too late. The race also proved as tough and challenging as I knew it would. It was a finish I was not aiming for but as a competitive athlete I knew that it’s all about respecting the fact that on any given race day, despite everything you do to prepare, you just never know what can happen.
The important thing is that I didn’t give up and fought to the very end to be able to say I crossed that finish line. Something I get to cherish the rest of my life.
🙏🏻Thank you to all of my family, friends, colleagues, clients who have supported me along the way.
🙏🏻🙏🏻Special thank you’s:

- coach Markus is the man! We started back in January and he gave me an incredible training program and game plan. He was there for me every step of the way including being there for me before, during and after it was all over. He made sure I was taken care of and that’s very priceless to me. Thank you Markus. This was just step one of many more to come together.
- What can I say, my love. You are my rock and greatest source of inspiration. How you’ve shown up for me emotionally and physically- coaching me through all the mobility work, has been nothing short of incredible. To have you here with me and to hear and see your beautiful face at every station was what literally kept me going. I love you and I couldn’t be more thankful for everything you’ve done for me to get here.
Sponsorships: These two incredible couples graciously donated toward my trip and I am extremely grateful and humbled, thank you all from the bottom of my heart:

- Tim and Janelle
: Mark and Candace.
What’s Next - I will forge ahead and train to qualify for next year’s World’s! 💪🏻🔥🏃🏻‍♂️

As you get older they say, “your best years are behind you.”

🤔 Interesting because if I had a time machine I would love to see the look on my 27 year old self’s face when I show him that his 40 year old self out ran his fastest 1/2 marathon time by…

nearly 11 minutes:

- 2008 Vancouver B.C. 1/2 marathon time - 1:46:30 (I trained thoroughly for that one)

- 2021 ‘Run Malibu’ 1/2 marathon time - 1:35:53

I’m not showing you these numbers to brag or to receive accolades.

Rather I want to use them as a way to “Trojan Horse” one very important lesson that I’ve come to learn and appreciate….

👉🏻 It’s far too easy (which is scary) to believe the stories or messages you hear from others or worse…..tell yourself.

And when you believe it’s true you will unknowingly act out those beliefs which can and will shape the course of your life.

As I trained for this last 1/2, my sole purpose was to give myself the opportunity to feel as good as I could from start to finish so that I could truly enjoy each scenic step of this run. (And oh how beautiful it was).

This type of intention-setting allowed me to really be present with my own body and my surroundings.

The reward wasn’t my (new PR) time, it was simply how great and grateful I felt to be in some of the best shape of my life at 40.

No matter where you’re at in your health journey the best thing you can do right now is to start being mindful or even write ✍🏻 down (very powerful exercise), whatever doubts, concerns, fears or skepticisms you have towards the goals or aspirations you have with your health.

I will tell you right now, with conviction, from personal and professional experience that those messages and thoughts you’re able to identify is the first step toward real change and are the ONLY obstacles you will need to overcome to experience lasting health and wellness.

You deserve it.
