Ms. Davis was heavily involved in the Civil Rights Movement during the 1960s. She was a member of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and worked to desegregate public schools in California. She also participated in protests against police brutality and racial injustice.​​​​​​​​
Black Power Movement: Davis was a member of the Black Panther Party and the Communist Party USA, both of which were central to the Black Power movement. She was known for her advocacy on behalf of black prisoners and her support for the revolutionary struggle against systemic racism.​​​​​​​​
Feminist Movement: Davis was a leading voice in the feminist movement during the 1970s. She criticized the white-dominated feminist movement for failing to address the intersections of race, gender, and class. Davis argued that the struggle for gender equality must also address racial and economic inequality issues.​​​​​​​​
Prison Abolition: Davis has been a leading figure in the movement to abolish prisons. She has argued that prisons are fundamentally unjust and do not serve the purpose of rehabilitation or crime prevention. Davis has called for a radical reimagining of the criminal justice system and advocated for incarceration alternatives, such as restorative justice. ​​​​​​​​
