If you've lost money in a cryptocurrency scam, you absolutely must understand the role of crypto exchanges in order to have a successful recovery. So when we read that a major exchange like crypto.com has halted withdrawals due to suspicious activity, we know it's a good thing for fighting scammers.

But let's start with the basics.

What is a crypto exchange?

A crypto exchange is a platform on which you can buy and sell cryptocurrency. You can trade one crypto for another or to buy crypto using regular currency, otherwise known as fiat currency.

They simply offer that function and while there are some exceptions, most of them are not bad guys by any means.

That's correct, they are not bad guys. While, there are a number of fake ones and others that open and shut, by far and the large, crypto exchanges like Binance, Coinbase or Crypto.com are by no means bad guys.

These exchanges actually are very good about KYC compliance, or, in layman's terms, providing information about an account holder to law enforcement due to suspicious activity when asked to do so.

They are by far some the largest exchanges and, like their competitors, seek to be regulated in order to enter desirable markets around the globe. It is in their interest to prevent crypto fraud.

But then how do scammers manage to work through them?

It is very simple, They use exchanges as if they were regular crypto traders. The scammer tells you to buy it at one exchange and then you pay him with it. Now, what happens after that is not so typical. The scammer movers the crypto through the blockchain to be eventually cashed out at another or sometimes at the same exchange.

What they do in between those two exchanges will reveal criminal activity on the blockchain. They put your bitcoin together with others or split it up, put it through "tumblrs" or use other tactics designed to launder the coins. Once an exchange sees such suspicious activity after being subpoenaed by the police, it will hand over the information to the authorities. Your scammer is now cornered.

That's why you need to get our CryptoTrace Report or one of our other services.

Crypto criminals are charging into 2022 by borrowing a successful tactic from classic scams of yesterday. They are now impersonating big companies. Previously, this was once confined to more focused schemes, like tech support scams. Now that the crypto world has its own big names, scammers are capitalizing on targeting experienced crypto investors by impersonating them as well.

One big name scammers are trying to impersonate is Virtu Financial, Inc. (NASDAQ: VIRT). Virtu, an electronic market maker, just issued a warning to the public to be on the alert for fraudsters who claim to be Virtu affiliates.

What if I told you that there you actually have a better set of conditions for recovering your cryptocurrency based on the developments over last year? It probably sounds like you're doomed to read headlines proclaiming that crypto theft grew 516% in 2021 and generated losses of $3.2 billion. But while it may sound frightening, it does mean that the time to start acting on your case is now.

Can any good come from the surge in crypto crime?

The answer is quite simple. It is has provided governments and regulatory bodies across the globe the necessary wake-up call that they needed to act on it.

Up until recently, very little had been done to address crypto crime by legislators and regulators across the globe because it was new. They did not know what to make of it nor see a need to address it as a serious problem until it finally victimized millions of people like you across the globe.

Now, they have to enact laws and regulations that ensure that you, the victim, can successfully pursue your scammer. Legislative and regulatory action will also prevent others from becoming victims down the road.

At the same time, law enforcement agencies have begun to act in pursuit of cryptocurrency theft and crypto criminals.

The answer is quite simple. It is has provided governments and regulatory bodies across the globe the necessary wake-up call that they needed to act on it.

Crypto exchanges across the globe are currently engaged in lobbying efforts to obtain regulatory status in the world's biggest financial markets. That first requires that they adopt strict anti-money laundering (AML) procedures and disclose the KYC data of suspected violators to relevant authorities.

In plain English, that means that it is in the interest of crypto exchanges to hand over this information to police if and when it is requested.

The world's largest crypto exchange, Binance, has been working intensely with regulators around the globe in order to gain access to every national market. Our own experience is that Binance has complied with KYC requests from law enforcement agencies. Many other exchanges are as well.

But none of it matters if you don't take the first step and obtain our CryptoTrace Report. Take your first step in being part of the momentum in fighting crypto crime in 2022.

A Thai citizen who thought he had made off with 500 million baht (roughly $15 million) was arrested in Bangkok last week. The 50-year-old was one of the individuals behind the infamous Onecoin scam, and -- until he was caught -- he thought that he could evade the law.

Like many crypto scammers, he had defrauded millions by promising investors absurdly high returns on their investments. Not only did he guarantee them a whopping 400% return on their crypto, but he even allowed co-conspirators to run their own shady businesses on the Onecoin platform. They purported to sell houses, cars, land plots, gold, food supplements, cosmetic products, and clothes in exchange for crypto. It was all one big cryptocurrency scam on steroids.

But he could not hide behind the blockchain forever. The blockchain records everything. But had victims not approached law enforcement with blockchain analysis as part of their evidence, his arrest would never have been possible.

This is why you need to ask us about getting our CryptoTrace Report. It is your first step in identifying a real person who has your money and can be apprehended by police and held accountable in a court of law.

Remember, you can prove you were scammed, but without the CryptoTrace Report's blockchain analysis, you cannot prove who scammed you. So talk to us today.
