Food access organizations in Los Angeles experienced a surge in demand at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The food access ecosystem is a deeply interconnected web of individuals and organizations that have tirelessly responded to the need for access to healthy, quality food in Los Angeles. Nonprofit Finance Fund, in partnership with the Los Angeles Food Policy Council and with support from Cedars-Sinai, interviewed people from food banks, pantries, family-owned businesses, social enterprises, mutual aid efforts, and a community college to understand key financial dynamics and funding needs. Findings from these conversations have been captured in a new series of case studies with recommendations for how funders can strengthen the Los Angeles food access ecosystem: https://learn-nff.org/3MFYAIz

This week we launched FARM FRESH LA, LA Food Policy Council's nutrition incentive program in collaboration with With Love Cafe and funded primarily by the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

At participating stores , , and , when you make a $5 CalFresh purchase you receive a free bundle of produce valued at $20. What makes Farm Fresh LA unique amongst other nutrition incentive programs is how it focuses on the local food supply chain and stimulates the local economy by providing revenue to local farmers, aggregators, and small businesses.

Through Farm Fresh LA, we aim to show that nutrition incentive programs not only provide greater access to healthy food but are also an opportunity for economic growth.
