Appointment of New Executive Director
George Moran Retires as Executive Director of NDTMA, Marybeth Miceli to Assume Role
Winter Garden, FL, June 29, 2020, For Immediate Release
NDTMA announced that long-time Executive Director George Moran will begin retirement effective June 30, 2020. The Board of Directors selected Marybeth Miceli to succeed Moran beginning July 1, 2020.
Moran served 28 years as NDTMA’s Executive Director overseeing daily operations and managing its annual conference and exhibits.
During Moran’s tenure, association’s membership grew from 70 to 193 member companies. Cash reserves increased, now exceeding one year’s operating expense. At the Board’s direction, Moran established an educational scholarship program. Moran launched pre and post annual conference management seminars and workshops. He established NDTMA’s internet presence, including premiering NDTMA webinars designed to provide management-focused education opportunities for its members and the greater NDT community. Initiating strategic planning for the association, Moran served as chair of the committee.
Moran’s achievements will not be forgotten. Bringing his experience from serving on society boards helped to further elevate NDTMA’s presence throughout the NDT community. Moran served as Chairman of the Board of ASTM International and is a Past President of ASNT. Moran’s passion for association management flourished during his tenure at NDTMA.
Moran said, “I am thankful for the many people I have had the privilege of serving with during my time at NDTMA. I consider it an honor to have served with NDT practitioners, company managers and owners. I developed friendships that would not have been possible without NDTMA. I am thankful God gave me the opportunity to serve and thankful to NDTMA Past President Doug Hackradt and the board for putting their faith in me in 1992. I am confident Marybeth will be eminently successful in taking NDTMA to the next level.”

DFR for Individual Monitoring Device Rulemaking
We received the following information from Tony McMurtray, Senior Project Manager, NMSS/MSST/MSTB, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission on March 18, 2020
As noted during my presentation last month at the NDTMA (Annual) meeting, the NRC was close to putting the “Individual Monitoring Devices” (Digital Dosimetry) rulemaking out in the Federal Register. This direct final rule went into the Federal Register today (March 18, 2020)
Please share this information with anyone that may be interested. This rule will be effective on June 16, 2020 unless the NRC receives significant adverse comments. If you would like to comment on this rulemaking, please follow the instructions in the Federal Register notice. Guidance for this rule is also available at the ADAMS Accession No. provided in the Federal Register Notice.
This new rule will allow industrial radiographers, irradiators workers, and well loggers to use digital dosimetry for the permanent dose of record.
