She’s a girl who was surrendered to the shelter at her greatest time of need. You see, Ruby was just diagnosed with degenerative kidney disease that will most likely result in taking her life early. The shelter says she has 3-6 months. Our vet says she could have 1-2 years.

Unfortunately due to medical needs the shelter cannot help her and has put her on *that* list. The list she doesn’t deserve. Ruby will require ongoing medical monitoring, treatment, supplements and a special kidney diet for the remainder of her life. This is no small feat. We get it.

But here’s the thing. We’ve met her. We’ve witnessed her sweetness, her vitality, her gentle magic. It’s not her time. Not even close.

We want to help her. She’s already been let down by the only family she’s ever known. The one that she gave all her love to - even as they were saying their goodbyes - knowing what could very well be her fate.

Not on our watch will we let the unthinkable happen. We are gonna make her one of us. And make her the princess that she is meant to be. For as long as she gives us.

But we need to be honest with ourselves. Ruby may not get adopted and might be with us until her end. So we’ve put a plan together that includes a wonderful foster mom who is ready to welcome her with open arms.

We’ve also created Ruby’s Lifeline Fund to be used exclusively for all of her care, medications and food. Our intention is to keep her thriving for as long as possible. For as long as she’ll give us.
