Trump Declares Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” Over Alleged Killings of Christians

United States President Donald Trump has officially designated Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” following reports of widespread attacks and killings targeting Christians.

In a statement shared on his social media platform, Truth Social, on Friday, Trump claimed that Christianity is under severe threat in Nigeria, describing the situation as a “mass slaughter” allegedly carried out by radical Islamists.

“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter,” Trump wrote.

The US president stressed that the United States “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening” and directed Congressman Riley Moore and House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole to launch an investigation into the issue.

“I am hereby designating Nigeria as a ‘Country of Particular Concern.’ But that is only the beginning. When Christians—or any group—are being killed in such large numbers as we’re seeing in Nigeria (3,100 compared to 4,476 worldwide), action must be taken,” he stated.

Trump further added, “I have instructed Congressman Riley Moore, alongside Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately investigate this matter and report back to me. The United States cannot remain silent while such atrocities continue in Nigeria and other nations. We stand ready, willing, and able to defend our great Christian population across the world.”
