Musicians Prime

there is no right way to be an artist in the online space.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
if it feels good to you, do it, and f**k the rest.
i find it ironic when people say “just be yourself!” and then spend so much time creating & obsessing over what they think other people want to hear and see.
i speak out so boldly on this subject because i’ve spent my whole life being told I couldn’t trust my own opinions, intuition, and doing what I wanted to do.
as a result, I did a lot of things that I thought would make people more interested in what I did…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
…that I thought would make people love me more.
…that I thought would make me feel more accepted in my professional and social circles.
not only did it not make me happy, it didn’t do or bring me any of the things i thought it would give me by doing them. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
it was only when i started to do ME, as the kids say, meaning…
listening to my own intuition…
doing the things i loved to do…
showing up to spaces and places the way i wanted to — online and offline, in my professional and personal life…
that people responded with excitement to what I created and put out there. i attracted more of what i wanted out of life, both as a person and an artist. ⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
life feels clearer when i trust myself and do what i want in it. (funny how that works.)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
so maybe it’s just me (and maybe it’s you, too), but we could all do ourselves and others better by listening to the voices in our head instead. 😉

Greetings, friends! 👋🏽⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you’re new here and wondering who this shiny golden goddess is showing up on your Instagram feed, keep reading and allow me to introduce myself!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m Gaby, the face behind this wonderful platform that you know as Musicians Prime. I’m a 32-year-old tea loving Los Angeles native that loves naps and sleeping in until noon as much as I love staying up late and painting the town red with my closest friends. 😜 I’ll be the first to arrive to a party, and also the first to show up at a funeral. I make space for the good, the bad, and the ugly, cause it’s all real life. Ask me my opinion on any given thing, and I will give it to you 💯❗️⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m a clarinetist and pianist by trade, with a Bachelors and Masters in Music Performance from California State University Fullerton, and I started Musicians Prime as a result of my online success with my clarinet girl gang . We started making music videos on YouTube together in 2016, covering pop and electronic songs, and A LOT of people loved them, in fact: to the tune of over 30K+ subscribers and over 4 million channel views. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So when I talk about how music video can positively impact your career, know that it’s coming from direct personal experience. 😉⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I’m obsessed with witchy s**t, especially astrology and tarot. 🔮✨ Practicing astrology and tarot have been really supportive tools in strengthening my intuition, which is honestly the most important tool a musician or creative can have. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I also LOVE to travel. ✈️ I’ve been to 10 different countries around the world and last year, I completed my first solo cross country road trip from Los Angeles to Deer Isle, Maine! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Now I wanna know a little more about you! Comment below with your name, where you’re from, and a city or country you’d like to travel to next! (Japan is a dream destination of mind… anyone here ever been? 🇯🇵)

Do you know what the most viewed videos on YouTube are??⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
MUSIC VIDEOS. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yup, that’s right. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As of TODAY (November 8th, 2021), 14 out of the top 20 most watched videos on YouTube are music videos, with all of those videos in that 14 surpassing at LEAST 3 BILLION VIEWS. 🤯⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Granted, all of those music videos are made by some of the most popular bands and musicians out there, but consider that YouTube has SO much diversity in the type of content that’s created on it — everything from beauty tutorials to workouts to comedy to cute cat videos — it’s interesting to see that MUSIC VIDEOS reign supreme as the type of content that entertains people the easiest. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That’s probably one of the most POSITIVE things you could hear as a musician. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Why?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because it means that if you create music videos on YouTube, your chances of being noticed and seen as are THAT much higher. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Where the challenge lies is actually creating an effective music video, and in order to do that, you’ve gotta create something that…⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👁visually entertains people⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
📖tells a story⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🦄 gives you a unique identity⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👫🏽 let’s you create a relationship with your audience⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fortunately, I have a course that teaches you EXACTLY how to do that! 😉⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

TIPS TO OVERCOMING TECH OVERWHELM FOR MUSICIANS:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ Check to make sure what each piece of video tech needs to be fully functional. Does it need WiFi? Do you need fully charged batteries? Whatever it is, make sure that you have access to that BEFORE you go on a shoot with it. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ Only bring the tech that you or someone on set will know how to use. A BIG mistake I see people new to video shoots make is that they buy a fancy piece of tech that they think will help them make the shoot better, but then don’t know how to use it. This is a SURE way to create tech overwhelm in a situation where there’s a good chance you might be stressed and worried about more than just tech. 😬⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ Be OVERPREPARED. Meaning: on the day of your shoot, bring extra batteries, chargers, SD cards, light bulbs, hard drives, a back up camera option, if that’s accessible to you. Even when we’ve made sure we’ve got everything in working order up to the night before, it’s ALWAYS possible something may not work on the day of. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨Take 5-10 minutes to learn about the tech you work with each day. This is one of the EASIEST ways to know how to work with the tech that you use everyday. The more you know about what you’re working with, the easier it’ll be for you to figure out how to fix any problems that happen with it!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ When all else fails, ask a professional for help (like me 😉)!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The BEST & EASIEST way to get beautiful, natural lighting to film your videos:
Stand in front of a window! 💡🪟Yup, it’s THAT easy.
Make sure you adjust any blinds or curtains so enough light can come through and VOILA! ✨You get a beautiful, glowing face that looks GREAT on camera, and you didn’t have to spend a single dollar to do it! 💰
Whatever you do, though: DON’T film with your back towards the window. That’ll cast a shadow around your face, making it look dark and unclear, and we don’t want that! 🙅🏽♀️ Always make sure your face is towards the window.
