Damn. Jenny Calendar. Played by Robia Scott. I will paint you again. Off the back of painting Faith Lehane I followed this very minimal approach, larger drops of watercolour, but this time it turned more graphic/two-dimensional, not helped by low quality reference imagery and very low lit scenes. I guess because she deserves that seductive lighting... Miss Jenny Calendar is my top Buffy crush, and Spike is the longest running. Give Buffy a chance, youngens. It has everything. Some hard heartbreaks. Season 2-3 is some of the best television there has ever been!

Scooby Gang Painting 10!!! Just a little watercolour worship given to the most super hairline of the scooby gang. What else would you expect from the cutest werewolf boyfriend in Sunnydale! 🐺 🌝 I really love the mix of texture I created across the hair in this one.

Scooby Gang Painting 3: Willow Rosenberg
This is when those dormant comic illustration instincts started to wake up. I could think more about style of stroke and tones rather than a mindless blur imitating exactly the image I was referencing.
Yay, for progression.
Boo, for losing Oz 😭💔
Hoothoot for le***an wiccans 💪✨
Brace yourself for the next one I did... *shudder*...
Ya win some ya lose some, so you win them back again. You'll see!

In her vampire empire I am... ✝️🦇🧛🏻
Scooby Gang Member 2: Buffy Summers, the slayer herself.
I went for Buffy next to avoid any pressure build-up to paint the main character ✨ flawlessly ✨ 'cause I knew that wouldn't happen on only my second go.
What have I learnt from this one? I missed laying down a vibrant undertone before going all in on the details and shadows, plus Buffy's complexion and hair were very matchy-matchy in the reference and I could have embellished however I wanted to add charisma. I also had a couple watery splodges I struggled to utilise or clean up. I revisited and added a blonde wash over the hair and orange felt tip details around shadows to add some warmer contrasts (photo 5 is before this, initial run and drying time, and shows scale). I think I also drew the pencils noice buuuut I painted at an angle and skewed her features.
What do I LIKE?? I like her eyes, as skewed as I went, and the hair details: bold strokes and the details layering up shadows to light. Not fussed about the spills around the edges, I already had background editing in mind so let loose. I can see a bit of soul coming out of her. Unlike Angelus, that soulless wet broad blanket. Bah. Who do you guys rate for the love of Buffy? Riley coulda been it, if only.... I appreciate a twisted Spike dalliance. Was there even anybody worthy? 🥲

Tis spooky season! The doom and gloom is extra doomier and gloomier, so rewatching Buffy + painting is slaying them seasonal blues in style 💘
Scooby Gang Member 1: Xander Harris, absolute babe . The start of my one-a-day (or every two kinda.....) watercolour marathon, so this is probably the roughest of the lot, but firsts always hold a treasured place 🙏 I might do another Xander, but I kinda like the splodgey spilt style that came out from this first step.
