SCI-Arc

This week, SCI-Arc graduate thesis students integrating graphics and zines into their thesis projects had the opportunity to visit designer April Greiman's studio for an inspiring tour of her work. Greiman's branding and design work helped to shape SCI-Arc's visual identity and now represents a graphic history of the school.

This visit was organized by Jackilin Bloom, SCI-Arc's graduate thesis coordinator. Students and the public will have the chance to see Greiman’s work again at SCI-Arc's Alumni event on November 11 in a library exhibit curated by Librarian Kevin MacMahon.

This project proposes supportive housing for veterans on the West Los Angeles VA Campus, integrating over 100 units with shared amenities while treating housing as both architectural and social infrastructure. A measured drawing of a stair revealed that spatial continuity is produced not by mass, but by infrastructural lines that extend and connect space, forming a framework of fixed “state” and “nomad” circulation. Through ramps, shifting units, and branching galleries, the design reworks the campus’s rigid symmetry into a more open, collective system that supports interaction, flexibility, and resident appropriation.
