I’m not an MMA fella, and I’ve never claimed to be one.

But as a high-level retired boxer,

I’ve had some of the top UFC fighters in the world ask me to train them.

I became the striking coach for Brendan Schaub.

At the time, he was a top 10 heavyweight in the world.

I cornered him for three UFC main events.

I also did some mitt work and training with Dominick Cruz & Ronda Rousey.

As well, I had Conor McGregor come train at my gym in LA while he was preparing to fight Floyd.

I watched him up close, and here is what I noticed:

He was very calm and controlled.

And because of this, he had great power, accuracy, and footwork.

It’s the smart movement that really sets him apart.

He didn’t throw 100 punches a round.

He picked his shots and landed them clean.

His footwork gave him balance.

His wide stance gave him control.

And little fast steps enabled him to move and counter.

His feet helped him move in and out of range.

So should you have this stance and move like Conor?

Probably not.

As we are all unique.

But one thing’s for sure: footwork is what holds everything together.

It saves energy.

Puts you in control.

Builds confidence.

And is the most important asset ANY fighter can have.

But to get great footwork,

you need to work on the specific things FOR YOU.
