Will you join us breathe new life into Brazil’s precious mangroves?

In partnership with local communities, we are restoring precious mangrove ecosystems through hands-on habitat restoration, sustainable practices, and meaningful environmental education.

Working closely with four incredible communities — Irirituiua, Boa Vista, Conceição, and Ponta do Suares — locals are leading the effort by collecting propagules, managing nurseries, planting, and monitoring sites using their invaluable traditional knowledge. Fishermen and shellfish gatherers will also receive training in sustainable harvesting practices.

With your support, community-led nurseries can continue growing mangrove propagules and native trees for replanting in degraded areas. Together, we are also helping revive the riparian forests along the Capivara River — improving water quality, stabilizing riverbanks, and reconnecting vital ecological corridors.

As part of this effort, we are piloting the reintroduction of Button Mangroves (𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙤𝙘𝙖𝙧𝙥𝙪𝙨 𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙨) alongside innovative erosion-control strategies to protect vulnerable coastal and river ecosystems.

To ease pressure on the mangroves, our “Employ to Restore” methodology introduces agroforestry systems that provide alternative income, fuelwood, and fodder, along with participatory education programs focused on waste management and conservation.

This is more than restoration. It’s about building long-term coastal resilience, protecting biodiversity, and empowering communities to thrive alongside the ecosystems they depend on.

What if you could walk across one of Earth’s richest ecosystems in just 2 kilometers?

It’s not a fantasy — it’s real, in Ankilahila, Madagascar.

This World Environment Day, we're celebrating Ankilahila, Madagascar—one of the most biodiverse landscapes in our restoration portfolio.

Within a small area, forests, wetlands, freshwater systems, and coastal habitats come together to form a remarkable network of interconnected ecosystems. Protecting this biodiversity requires collaboration across communities, government partners, organizations, and supporters, all working toward a shared vision for long-term conservation.

Together with Red Island Restoration , we're helping restore mangrove forests and protect the extraordinary wildlife and ecosystems of the Ankilahila Coastal Forest Restoration and Conservation Project.

Join us in safeguarding Ankilahila and other extraordinary ecosystems across the globe for generations to come. Learn more at www.arcrestoration.org

Every restored shoreline, every growing forest, and every planted tree begins with local action. 🌱

This International Day for Biodiversity, the theme “Acting locally for global impact” reflects the heart of restoration work by ARC and our planting partners across Brazil, Madagascar, and Kenya.

Since 2024, 2,622,762 trees have been planted through ARC’s restoration efforts. Beyond the numbers, these trees are restoring vital ecosystems and rebuilding biodiversity. Through our Employ to Restore methodology, we don’t just plant trees — we employ local community members to produce, plant, and protect new forests.

Small actions, rooted in local communities, can create lasting impact for both people and planet. 🌍

On 18 November 2025, the RIR team, accompanied by representatives from DREDD (Direction Régionale de l’Environnement et du Développement Durable - Madagascar’s environment authority), visited the Aranta Sotema Mangrove Restoration Project to conduct a field survey of the previous year’s restoration activities. 📋

The main objectives of the visit were to:
✅ Assess survival rates in the planted areas,
✅ Evaluate environmental conditions and external factors affecting the plantations, and
✅ Review overall progress toward the project’s planting targets.

It should be noted that DREDD did not evaluate the entire site but focused exclusively on areas where planting had already occurred. Particular attention was given to the quality of the restoration work and the effectiveness of maintenance and protection measures implemented by RIR. This targeted approach enabled the team to provide more precise and detailed feedback, allowing for a clearer measurement of progress and better-informed recommendations for future site management. 🎯

During this follow-up mission, DREDD formally evaluated the RIR team’s performance. The final rating awarded for our planting efforts was a B+, equivalent to an impressive 89%. This strong result reflects the hard work and commitment of everyone involved and underscores the value of the close collaboration between ARC and Red Island Restoration. Such positive recognition is highly motivating and reinforces our determination to continually improve our restoration practices. 🏆

Overall, the outcomes of the mission were encouraging and greatly appreciated by the entire team. - Andry Rakotohavana (RIR Madagascar Marketing and Media Associate) 🫡
