Matthew Perry is a beloved figure in the world of entertainment and the fact that he’s no longer with us seems very unfair to me. And for a long time, I couldn’t bring myself to read his memoir because I knew I was going to find his pain embedded in the pages.
And I was right.
In Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, Matthew Perry talks about his life in Canada, his parents, how some of his traits developed according to his circumstances, his move to the USA, alcoholism and addiction issues and we see how, behind a funny, sarcastic, witty, happy guy like Chandler was a funny, sarcastic, witty Matthew Perry who was in so much pain, yet entertained us like no other.
Talking about this book saddens me because it shines red as I think about his pain wrapped up in his classic wit and humor.
And all I can say is: Could it be more heartbreaking?
