WIP: "Me Wanting"

The funniest part of portraits as I paint in the eyes because I usually start with pupils so they look like big circles awkwardly placed on the face. Add eye lashes and the white and like magic they look more like eyes.

I started seeing posts from art commentators about how they don't want process anymore. There is so much now that they want mystery. I'll keep sharing these, but it's amusing to me how you can so easily be pulled back and forth by trends.

WIP: "Man Wanting"

Why does it feel so normal to paint/draw n**e models but feel so weird to paint/draw myself, even non-gratuitously, n**e?

I'm definitely not the first, and certainly not going to be the last, to do a n**e self-portrait. But when coming up with this unusual pose, I couldn't help but think, if I ever did a series of these of myself, people would go "bro is weird as hell for painting these" but I could paint models for years and no one would ever question them.

Sharing some more experimental ideas, first two inspired by Francis Bacon. I've definitely struggled to understand the way he deformed figures and faces. But some interesting ideas have come from it.

1) "Transformation of Tadanobu Asano from Kakihara to Yabushige"

2) "Three Cells"

3) Plein air painting.

4) N**e, Self portrait
